New Year's Eve
New Year's Eve Dueling Pianos & Live Bands in the Central Valley & Northern California
New Year's Eve 2026 falls on a Thursday, which means plenty of venues, wineries, clubs and private hosts will be planning a full night of music. It is also the single most-requested date on any entertainer's calendar. If you're running a bar, restaurant, winery, casino, country club or private party anywhere from Lodi, Stockton and Modesto to Sacramento, the Bay Area, Napa, Lake Tahoe or Reno, the time to book is now. Here's how to choose the right act for the countdown, and who JMD Entertainment can put on your stage. Our top pick for the big night: an all-request dueling show that turns the whole room into one countdown sing-along.
Start with the room and the crowd
Before you pick an act, answer three questions: How many guests? Do you want people dancing, singing along or mingling? And how long does the night run, from early dinner service through midnight? A packed dance floor calls for a band. A sing-along crowd that wants to request songs is perfect for dueling pianos, our favorite format for the countdown. An upscale dinner or tasting room is a natural fit for solo piano and vocals. Many New Year's Eve nights mix two of these, and we can plan the hand-off.
Dueling pianos: the headline act for New Year's Eve
If you want one show that carries the whole night, book dueling pianos. Two pianist-singers face off on stage taking requests from the crowd, so every table gets its song, birthdays and shout-outs get worked in, and the whole room ends up singing together. The energy builds set by set toward midnight, and the countdown becomes a full-room sing-along instead of a TV in the corner.
JMD Entertainment books dueling shows through Modern Dueling Pianos, led by James Michael Day, along with players on our talent roster. The format works in a bar, a winery barrel room, a ballroom or a private party, and we can bring the pianos, sound and lighting so the stage looks finished the moment guests walk in.
Whiskey Kiss: country hits for a big Lodi-area night
Based in the Lodi and Woodbridge area, Whiskey Kiss plays the country and classic rock hits everyone knows, from Garth Brooks and George Strait to Tom Petty and Bad Company, with guitars, bass, pedal steel, harmonica and drums. They've played festivals, street fairs and Music in the Park series across the Central Valley, including Elk Grove, Galt, Lodi, Stockton and Manteca, and in August 2026 they opened a sold-out Groovin' in the Grove concert at Jessie's Grove Winery in Lodi. For a winery, saloon, ranch venue or big private party that wants boots on the dance floor at midnight, they're a strong pick. The core is a four-piece, and it can expand for bigger events.
The Penetrators Groove Band: award-winning R&B, soul and funk
Out of the Stockton and Modesto area, The Penetrators Groove Band was named Best Jazz & Blues at the 2025 Modesto Area Music Awards. With up to seven pieces, including Hammond B3, sax and powerhouse vocals, they groove through 60s and 70s hits, R&B, blues, classic rock and soul, from Kool & The Gang, James Brown and Al Green to the Temptations, ZZ Top and Santana. For clubs, casinos, resorts and corporate or private galas that want a dressed-up dance party, they bring the energy right up to the countdown.
Solo piano and vocals: polished and personal
For dinner seatings, winery tasting rooms, hotel lounges and smaller private parties, one performer at the piano keeps the room warm without taking over conversation, then turns it into a sing-along as midnight gets close. James Michael Day is the former San Jose Sharks organist, with 2,000+ songs in his repertoire and hundreds of shows at San Francisco's famous Lefty O'Doul's piano bar. Our roster also includes other piano-vocal performers for dates he's already booked.
Production and timing for the big night
New Year's Eve runs on a tight schedule: dinner, sets, toasts, the countdown and the after-midnight dance floor. JMD Entertainment can supply sound, lighting, piano and stage production along with the talent, and we'll build a run-of-show with your venue so the music lands right on midnight. One booking, one accountable partner.
