Reno & Lake Tahoe
Booking Event Entertainment in Reno & Lake Tahoe: Dueling Pianos, Solo Piano and Live Bands
Reno and Lake Tahoe pull groups from everywhere. A casino ballroom might host a sales team flown in from three states. A lakeside wedding brings both families up the mountain for one weekend. A ski-season holiday party at a resort mixes locals with people who drove up from Sacramento and the Bay Area that afternoon. What these rooms have in common is a crowd that doesn't know each other yet, and the entertainment's job is to fix that fast. Here's how we'd think about choosing the right act for an event in Reno, Sparks, Truckee, North Lake Tahoe or South Lake Tahoe, and what JMD Entertainment can bring up the hill.
Start with the room, not the act
Before picking a format, it helps to answer a few questions. Is this a ballroom with a stage and house sound, or a lodge great room, restaurant buyout or tent that starts empty? How many guests, and how long is the night? Do you want people singing, dancing, or mostly talking over dinner? A crowd that wants to request songs and sing along is a natural fit for dueling pianos. A dance floor that needs to stay full until close calls for a band. A welcome reception or dinner seating usually wants one performer at the piano. Plenty of destination weekends use two of these, and we can plan the hand-off between them.
Dueling pianos for casino events and resort nights
Our lead recommendation for most Reno and Tahoe group events is a dueling piano show. Two pianist-singers take requests from the crowd, trade songs and play off each other, so every table gets its moment: the birthday, the retirement, the team that just hit its number, the couple who got engaged on the trip. Because the whole show runs on requests, it works for a mixed crowd that came from different places and different decades. By the second set, strangers are singing the same chorus.
For corporate groups, we keep the show clean and on-brand, work in company shout-outs and award moments, and fit the run-of-show around dinner, speeches and any program you have planned. JMD Entertainment books dueling shows through Modern Dueling Pianos and players on our talent roster, and our performers have played corporate events at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno and performed for The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe. If you'd like guests even more involved, we can add karaoke with a live pianist playing and singing harmony behind each singer.
Solo piano and vocals for receptions, lounges and dinners
Not every part of a destination weekend needs full show energy. A welcome reception, a rehearsal dinner, a ceremony and cocktail hour, or a resort lounge set calls for a single piano-vocal performer who keeps the room warm without drowning out conversation, then can turn it into a sing-along later in the night. JMD Entertainment founder James Michael Day, the former San Jose Sharks organist, plays these sets with a 2,000-plus song repertoire, and our roster includes other piano-vocal performers when he's already booked.
Live bands when the dance floor is the point
For a casino club night, a gala after-party or a wedding reception that's all about dancing, a band is the right call. The Penetrators Groove Band, named Best Jazz & Blues at the 2025 Modesto Area Music Awards, plays 60s and 70s hits, R&B, soul, blues and classic rock with up to seven pieces, including Hammond B3, sax and powerhouse vocals. Clubs, casinos, resorts, weddings and corporate parties are their home turf. For a ranch-style wedding or a lodge party that wants boots on the floor, Whiskey Kiss brings country and classic rock, from Garth Brooks and George Strait to Tom Petty and Bad Company, with pedal steel, harmonica and a core four-piece that can expand for bigger rooms.
Production that fits mountain and casino venues
Casino ballrooms often have tight changeovers and house rules about load-in. Lodges, private homes and lakeside tents often have no stage and no sound at all. Either way, it helps to settle production early. JMD Entertainment can supply pianos, sound, lighting and stage production along with the talent, or work with your venue's house system and AV team. Send us photos of the space and the venue's event contact, and we'll confirm power, footprint and timing with them directly so nothing surprises anyone on the day.
Book early for peak weekends
Tahoe's summer wedding season and the December holiday party stretch fill the calendar first, and Saturday nights at resorts and casinos go quickly. If you already know your date, it's worth checking availability now, even if the rest of the plan is still coming together.
